Ongoing conflict in Myanmar has created a humanitarian crisis
A 2021 military coup and the Rohingya genocide are just a few of the factors contributing to long-term instability in Myanmar, also known as Burma. The United Nations estimates that within the country, 19.9 million people - mostly women and children - will need humanitarian aid in 2025. Millions more have fled to Thailand over the years, seeking safety.
Greater Good Charities has partnered with the Mae Tao Clinic, located near the Myanmar border with Thailand, to provide education and food to Burmese children living in boarding houses. MTC's Dry Food Program enables children with poor education opportunities to access education along the Thai-Myanmar border and inside Myanmar's Karen state. Support in the form of monthly dry food rations is given to students living in boarding houses. These boarding schools ensure they complete their education, stay healthy, and are protected from the risk of child labor or exploitation.
The Dry Food Program provides the primary nourishment for approximately 2,100 migrant students via rice, tinned fish, oil, yellow beans, salt, and seasoning. Without these essential food donations, many boarding houses would be unable to provide for the children.
You can help. Just $10 provides food for a student for a whole month. You can empower children by providing them the food and education they need to thrive.
Mae Tao Clinic has a vision for all people from Myanmar to have access to quality and affordable healthcare, education and protection in respect of all human rights. MTC is a community-based organization (CBO) that provides and advocates for an equitable and essential health system, education and protection for vulnerable and displaced people living along the Thai-Myanmar border and in Eastern Myanmar. MTC addresses the needs and human rights of these people through comprehensive programs and a collaborative approach with local, national, international and government bodies.
