Overview

This volume celebrates the considerable contributions of Edward Muir to the history of Renaissance Italy and early modern Europe. In keeping with Muir’s signature interdisciplinary approach to history, the fifteen essays in this volume include contributions on the ritual dimensions of early modern politics, religion, literature, and art and range from the Venetian and Florentine capitals of Renaissance high culture to Germany, Spain, the Low Countries, and China. Janus-faced, like all good historians, the volume looks forward and back, combining distinguished senior scholars and new voices with venerable debates and new fields. In doing so, the collection testifies to the vibrancy, vitality, and significance of early modern studies today and the degree to which Muir’s scholarship over the past thirty years has powerfully fueled the field’s dynamism.

Mark Jurdjevic is Associate Professor of History at Glendon College, York University. His work focuses on Florentine political and intellectual history

Rolf Strøm-Olsen is Associate Professor of Humanities at IE University and Director of the Humanities Program and IE Business School. He studies patterns of state formation in late medieval Burgundy.

Praise

“For almost forty years, Edward Muir has encouraged us to pay attention to ritual, to see meaning in trifles, and to think from Venice to the world. Rituals of Politics and Culture in Early Modern Europe  is an eloquent interdisciplinary tribute to his scholarship, teaching, and inspiration. Readers will delight in this historical feast in honour of one of the foremost practitioners of Renaissance and Reformation history." - Paula Findlen, Stanford University

“This volume offers a rich sampling of how fruitful Edward Muir’s insights into ritual, law, and community have proven to be. The articles, written in a lively and accessible style, will be of interest to students of art, literature, politics, gender, and religion. Indeed, Jurdjevic and Strøm-Olsen’s anthology provides one of the most stimulating introductions to the field of early modern Europe now available; it will prove indispensable to scholars and students alike." - John Jeffries Martin, Duke University

“The volume is a fitting tribute to Ed Muir’s outstanding career and his groundbreaking scholarship. The essays, based on extensive archival research, are of the highest quality. The sophisticated and far reaching blend of topics represents well Muir’s range of intellectual interests." - William Caferro, Vanderbilt University

Easy, lots of power, incredibly handy!
Color: Red
Bought one of these for each of my teenagers. They’re very easy to use and have came in clutch many times! One charge jumped two cars, a truck, a lawn mower twice, and it’s still going. I often grab it out of their vehicle to use on the farm. These are great for cars, trucks, side by sides, four wheelers, and lawn mowers. I definitely recommend this for anyone! I wrote this review sitting stranded with a flat tire on my side by side in a Cow field, waiting for my son to bring me his compressor.

So good we bought another
Color: Red
We spend a lot of time in Baja California, and rough, unpaved roads result in lots of tire punctures. Having a decent air compressor is therefore "necessary equipment". This unit inflates tires reasonably quickly, automatically displays the pressure in the tire before you set the desired inflation pressure, and shuts off automatically when the desired pressure is reached. The display is easy to read. The short, detachable hose is easily attached and removed, and stores in the bag with the pump. The hose length works for most common automobile tires, and will work for oversize tires by rotating the wheel to bring the valve stem closer to the ground. Attachment to the valve stem is easily accomplished with its lever-lock working end. The unit can additionally function as a battery booster for starting a vehicle with a low battery. Installation of the cable for that purpose is easily done, and it worked just fine when we had to use it on one of our two vehicles one morning, allowing the car to be started quickly and easily. Charging is accomplished with a standard USB charging cable (USB-A style at one end, and USB-C style connector at the other end). We had a puncture that required the pump to be used multiple times to get the 12 miles back to a tire repair shop. We could charge the pump up easily and quite quickly via the vehicle's USB port, stopping every few miles to pump the tire back up enough to keep going on the highway without having to go through the trouble of unloading the trunk to change the tire for the "doughnut" spare at the side of the road. Having those two experiences just shortly after we received the pump was more than enough proof that we should have another for our other car. I'd recommend it for its small, easily stowable size, good battery capacity and ease of use.

It works and I’m happy!
Color: Red
This item is terrific! A bit noisy but it’s compact and works like a charm. Inflates my tire quickly. I have not used it to jump start my car, but I’m convinced it would work just fine. Great price too!

Good thing to keep in your trunk
Color: Red
This has been a pretty helpful thing to have in the car. My tires have been losing pressure recently and this helps keep them topped off while I wait to change my tires. It's easy to use and the value for the price is great. The main issue is that it seems to need a full charge in order to jump a car because I had issues using it to jump my car when half charge, but no issues at full. Also the cable lengths are a bit short.

Worked like a charm to jump start my Mazda
Color: Red
My Mazda CX-30 wouldn't start one day. I knew these rechargeable jump starters were a thing so I jumped on Amazon and got this one same day. Worked like a charm! Inside the main unit is basically a giant power bank. It charges with a USB-C in, which is awesome and universally available. It even has a USB-A out port to charge another device. I charged it up to full when I first got it, even though it already had some juice in it and I *think* you'd be able to get an emergency jump right out of the box if you needed to. The directions are simple. Plug the battery clamps into the box, then clamp them onto your battery. A green light tells you that it's ready to go. Press the BOOST button, then go into your car and start it up with in 30 seconds. Then remove the clamps and away you go. No sparks, no scary sounds, no worries. I jumped it twice and it still had enough charge for possibly a few more. Other great emergency features: the tire inflator has programmable pressure. The light is nice and bright and stays steady for a flashlight or blinks for emergency. And I already mentioned the USB out for charging another device. This is a great, indispensable emergency device for anyone's car. I'm glad I got it and I'll make sure it stays charged in my glove box.
