The Leopard tank continued the tradition of excellent tank development by Porsche. The design went against the trend followed by most other nations, focusing on a highly manoeuvrable vehicle combined with a powerful 105mm gun, instead of heavy armour and a massive gun.

This combination resulted in a tank design that was capable of out manoeuvring the behemoths of the battlefield, whilst still packing a punch that could defeat the front armour of most enemy tanks and easily slice through the sides of the rest.

Rifled Gun
The Leopard was equipped with the latest British 105mm gun. This gun had rifling, or grooves down the internal surface of the barrel, that improved the accuracy of shells by imparting spin on them as they travelled down the barrel.

Power-To-Weight
Mobility came above every other consideration for the designers of the Leopard tank. The ability to across the battlefield at speed and not get bogged down in terrain that would stop other tanks was a hallmark of the design.
