It's been heat-treated to ensure there are no critters left inside. The block has several open cracks that you will likely want to stabilize prior to turning. Get one but use it on a medium firm mattress, not a firm one.

You need a mattress that is medium firmness to use this wonderful pillow. It gives perfect neck support and I can sleep on all 4 sides with it. My neck/head pain quit first night used it. On a firm mattress it feels too hard and awkwardly cradle l es my head.

Got the 2pk, while these are probably not worth $65/pillow, they are definitely comfortable and I had no issues sleeping on it. Much better than the memory foam pillows from Walmart.
Could be a bit bigger and denser on the foam, but otherwise its perfect.
Pair with nylon cover for better cooling.
