Be colour confident

As you discover how chromatic creativity is something you can practice every day.

In this book for thinkers and makers of all kinds, Kate Davies and Felicity Ford interrogate and celebrate that most unruly of creative concepts - colour.  This is not a book in which you will find any so-called colour theories or illusory quick fixes for your chromatic questions. Rather, in a series of lively, engaging and beautifully-illustrated essays, Kate, Felix and their friends around the world generously share the ideas and approaches that have helped them to develop ways of working with colour that are curiosity-driven, bold and fun.

Early sections of the book shine a critical light on that most persuasive of chromatic objects, the colour wheel, examine debates surrounding colour’s cultural value, and explore how contemporary chromatic ideas have been shaped by historic standards and technologies. Dispelling myths that anyone might inherently be either “good” or “bad” with colour, later chapters encourage creative play and confidence through accessible, life-affirming everyday practices.

Finally, in the book’s closing section, colour is revealed as a connecting thread, weaving its way through many different aspects of identity and experience. Colour is the rich resource with which we knit and stitch and document the story of our time on earth. Colour can bring us back to ourselves as we develop intuitive and self-trusting ways of working. And we can turn to colour whenever we feel the need to use the work of our own hands to question the world in which we live.

With your own creative hands, how will you make colour work?

Great Shelves! Drywall Anchors are the Bomb!
These shelves are very plain as I hoped they would be so as to not take away from the items displayed. The blue is true to the images so I was impressed by that. Word of knowledge: if you do not hit any studs, don’t use the mollies that came with them; use plastic drywall anchors! They work amazingly well!

Pretty shelves for small space
Size: 17 Inch, Color: Natural
Good quality shelves and easy to install once I used my own stronger anchors and screws. The ones provided were too weak and made the shelf unstable. I had to patch several holes in my wall before installing them correctly. If they had provided better quality anchors I would have rated it 5 stars. Still very happy with my purchase.

Flimsy and doesn’t hold weight
Size: 17 Inch, Color: Natural, Size: 17 Inch, Color: Natural
Do not buy this. The frame this comes with is so small and flimsy. I didn’t even have anything on the shelves yet and they were falling off the wall. The wood is a beautiful color but the quality is awful. I had different floating shelves on the same wall and I included a picture of the thick metal frame those came with, also from Amazon to show how flimsy this brand is.

Really nice shelves well-made
Size: 30 Inch, Color: Walnut, Size: 30 Inch, Color: Walnut
I recently installed a set of floating wooden shelves above my kitchen sink, and they have completely transformed the space. The natural wood grain adds warmth and character, making my kitchen feel more open and inviting. The shelves are sturdy and well-made, supporting everything from dishware to small plants and decorative items without any sagging. Installation was straightforward, with the included hardware making it easy to mount them securely. I was pleasantly surprised by how well they hold weight while maintaining a sleek, minimalistic look. The floating design gives a clean, uncluttered aesthetic, which is exactly what I was looking for. Functionally, they’ve made a huge difference. I can now keep everyday essentials like mugs and spices within easy reach while freeing up valuable counter space. They’re also a great alternative to upper cabinets, preventing the area above my sink from feeling closed in. Overall, these floating wooden shelves are both practical and stylish. Whether you’re looking to add storage or just enhance your kitchen’s design, they’re a fantastic option. I highly recommend them for anyone wanting a simple yet impactful upgrade to their space!

Look nice, not sturdy or supportive
Size: 17 Inch, Color: Dark Blue
The color and thickness of the shelf is great. Very easy to install. But the wall mount portion is cheaply made and doesn’t support the shelf as well as it should. Once mounted the shelf leans forward and isn’t sturdy. After mounting, I found my items had slid off end up on the floor.
