Tasting Notes
Appearance
Pale to medium straw with golden highlights, displaying brilliant clarity and a pristine appearance. The wine's attractive colour reflects nine months of barrel maturation in French oak puncheons and hogsheads, whilst the depth suggests the wine's complexity and the quality of cool-climate fruit from the coastal Gippsland Lakes District.
Aroma
The bouquet opens with aromas of nectarine, lemon curd and freshly baked biscuit, underscored by a saline minerality that reflects the vineyard's unique position on a limestone bluff above the Mitchell River. This sophisticated aromatic profile showcases the contemporary cool-climate style and the distinctive Terra Rossa over limestone terroir of Myrtle Point Vineyard.
Palate
Layered and textural, the palate delivers notes of lemon sorbet, white peach and fresh almonds, with a gentle, nutty barrel ferment character that adds depth. Wine Companion's Jane Faulkner (94 points) describes it as "a good drink—an all-rounder with lightly spiced white peach, Meyer lemon, texture and a fine layer of creamy lees, soft and supple yet the acidity ties everything together nicely." The wine was fermented in French oak barrels (15% new) and left on lees for nine months with periodic stirring, creating exceptional balance and refinement.
Pairs With
This versatile Myrtle Point Vineyard Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roasted chicken with herbs, grilled prawns or scallops, creamy pasta dishes or risotto, pan-fried fish with lemon butter, soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, and roasted pork tenderloin, whilst its textural palate also complements lobster and veal dishes.
Reviews
"Gee this is a good drink - as in an all-rounder. Nothing out of place, nothing over the top nor overly complex, just, as I mentioned, a good drink. Lightly spiced white peach, Meyer lemon, some texture and a fine layer of creamy lees. It's soft and supple yet the acidity ties everything together nicely."
94 Points - Jane Faulkner, Wine Companion
