Antonín Dvořák's Slavonic Dances are among his most cherished works. However, they are not mere transcriptions; Dvořák himself was entirely responsible for their rich orchestration! This lush orchestration, combined with singing, sweet, and dreamy themes, and the festive atmosphere brought about by extensive use of percussion, made Opus 46 and 72 a true success!
Karel Šejna came from the ranks of the orchestra, from the double bass section, and this experience and direct knowledge of the inner workings of the orchestra, combined with an extraordinary ear and musicality, greatly aided him in his work as a conductor.
His preferred repertoire naturally included the composers of his country, and we owe him an absolutely splendid recording of Dvořák's Slavonic Dances: energetic, passionate, tender, wild, lyrical... words fail us to describe the full beauty of his interpretation. The remastering greatly contributes to restoring the original brilliance and luster to this magnificent recording.
