What does it take to prepare for and maintain an effective pastoral ministry in 21st century America? Well, a theological education isn't a bad place to start (the authors of this book are products--and fans--of seminary education)! But while we encourage pastors to get all the formal education possible, we acknowledge that much learning critical to pastoral success never took place in a classroom, but in a community of our peers. That's where our book-learning was practically enhanced by the experiential wisdom of fellow pastors who warned us away from danger and pointed us in the right direction. What our friends did for us, we hope now to do for our readers!

Hence, Hobo Pastors. This book draws its unusual title from the rail-riding "hobos" of Great Depression era America. Those inveterate travelers faced many unpredictable dangers and demands as they rode the trains from one place to another. They naturally came to rely on friends who had gone ahead and left helpful signs to guide them.

In this book, we write as a couple of veteran pastor hobos leaving helpful "signs" for our younger compadres as they ply the rails of as yet under-explored pastoral territory. Some of the signs relate to the core tasks of pastoral ministry -- preaching, funerals, and marriage counseling. Other signs address some the more jarring aspects of ministry, like change management and negotiating conflict. Many of the signs speak to the inescapable prerequisites of character-- fighting pride and pursuing humility, fighting sloth and pursuing perseverance.

With each chapter, one of us highlights a significant pastoral challenge and the other adds their two cents. We hope our readers will receive this back-and-forth dialogue as a "hobo signs" lovingly placed before you by a couple of old pastoral rail-riders!

Little big
Size: 20, Color: Rinse Wash
They run just a tiny bit big. The length is more ankle length instead of capri length as shown. However, I liked the wash and the length doesn't bother me. Perfect match to the essentials jacket.

good stretch
Size: 10 Long, Color: Dark Wash
Honestly, these are one of those surprisingly good basics—especially for the price. The biggest standout is the stretch. They’re really comfortable and move with you, so they don’t have that stiff “jeans” feeling. They hug your body in a flattering way without feeling too tight or restrictive, which makes them easy to wear all day. The mid-rise fit is also a sweet spot—not too low, not too high—so they’re super versatile with different tops. What I liked: Very stretchy and comfortable (almost feels like jeggings, but still looks like denim) Flattering skinny fit through the legs Easy everyday jeans—work, errands, going out Great value for the price What to know: Material is on the thinner side (more comfort than “structured denim”) They can lose shape slightly after a full day of wear Not the most durable long-term compared to higher-end denim Final thoughts: These are perfect if you want cute, comfortable, affordable jeans you can throw on with anything. Not premium denim, but for everyday wear—they definitely get the job done and are worth having in your rotation.

Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans
Size: 14, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans receives positive reviews from me for their significant stretch, comfort, and flattering fit. The jeans are great for everyday wear, they feel soft and thick yet move well. Although some folks find sizing inconsistent, occasionally needing to size up or experiencing a slightly odd fit in certain areas. They're praised for looking good, offering good value, and being versatile enough for various occasions. Sizing can be hit-or-miss for some, but not for me.

Size down.
Size: 8 Long, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
They are high stretch so I would size down from your usual size. I have bought size 10 in their brand and noticed the two previous I've purchased before this one were loose. So when I purchased this one I sized down and they fit good to me. I got long so they are LONG. And the regular would probably fit at your ankle or above. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars was bc I don’t feel it mid rise to me it feels like high rise but I don’t feel them uncomfortable and also THEY ARE NOT SKINNY JEANS. They are straight leg and a tad bit loose so if you want stretch and skinny jeans these are not the ones for you. I only bought them thinking they were like the picture but it’s false advertisement.
