One of the most recognizable and uniquely beautiful agaves, victoriae-reginae is an ornamental that even non agave lovers fall for. A native to the Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico, Agave victoriae-reginae is found scattered about in several localities growing in limestone between 4000-5000' in Coahuila, Durango, and Nuevo Leon. The beautifully painted leaves were so striking that this agave was named by English botanist Thomas Moore in honor of Queen Victoria who reigned from 1837-1901. 

 

Agave victoriae-reginae will grow in full sun and can handle temperatures into the single digits. A slow grower, after many years the plant gains enough energy to push a single stemmed spicate inflorescence filled with yellow, reddish, or purple blooms. Agave victoriae-reginae grow 1'-2' across and stays typically under 1'. Grow in mass plantings or in an ornamental container to show off this plants hypnotic dazzle.

I'd recommend it, especially at this give-away-price
As a sociologist, I was always interested as to how the USSR could morph what Marx considered communalism networked by a shallow, weak, centralized and supposedly representative government into what I would considered an extremest left-wing oligarchy (most fashionably consider it right-wing despite how it was sold and supported by the people that allowed it- so much for cultural relativity and in context social analysis!). If Stalin actually wrote these pieces (or more commonly among dictators farmed it out to a frightened academic ghostwriter) then it could help explain why Marx disassociated himself with much of the Marxist movement toward the end of his life. It is a logically written and well informed book - worth the read if you are into the sociology of politics, philosophy of politics or the history of politics. I'd recommend it, especially at this give-away-price!

Good book, mediocre edition
Format: Paperback
This review pertains to the quality of this edition's editing and construction, rather than the content of the book itself. Rest assured that the text itself remains a valuable piece of introductory theory. The book is fairly well constructed, with paper and a binding that is sturdy enough for general use. However, my copy had several manufacturing errors including folded over pages being stuck into the binding. In addition, there are several misspelled words throughout the text and some obvious typos (missing letters, incorrect capitalization and punctuation) that did not majorly impact the readability of the text, but were, nevertheless, annoying. Considering the low price of this edition the manufacturing errors are hardly a big deal, but I would have preferred the text itself to have been treated with more care and respect while being prepared for printing.

thoughts on Xi Jinping

This book was highly organized and very easy to comprehend. I have formed a much better understanding of Xi Jinping and where he is taking China. Although I feel he has been thoughtful and successful in some areas such as improving China economically, I don’t feel his autocratic approach will succeed in the long run when more Chinese people will demand to be heard. Just as Mao thought didn’t outlast Mao, Xi thought will not outlast Xi.
