PU-CB98 / PU-CBHS Control Board Heat Sensor

Key Features

  • Precision Thermal Monitoring: Provides real-time heat data to the control board, allowing the stove to accurately determine when to activate the room air blower or trigger a safety shutdown.
  • Plug-and-Play Connector: Equipped with a standard white plastic molex-style connector for a direct, secure interface with the Englander control board, requiring no wire stripping or crimping.
  • High-Temperature Insulation: Features high-grade insulated lead wires designed to withstand the intense radiant heat within the stove's internal cabinet without melting or shorting.
  • Durable Thermistor Probe: The sensor tip is encased in a corrosion-resistant metal housing to protect the sensitive electronics from the abrasive nature of pellet ash and soot.

Compatibility & Fitment

This heat sensor is compatible with a wide array of pellet and multi-fuel stoves manufactured by England Stove Works (ESW). Key compatible models include:

  • Englander Pellet Stoves: 25-PDV, 25-PDVC, 25-EP, 25-EPI, 25-IP, 25-PAF, 25-PFS, 25-PI, 25-PUF.
  • Multi-Fuel Models: 10-CDV, 10-CPM.
  • Brand Cross-Compatibility: Also fits Summers Heat (SHP/SHP series) and Timberland (TRP series) models that share the Englander chassis designs.

When to Replace

  • "E-1" or "E-2" Error Codes: The digital display on the control board shows an error code indicating the sensor circuit is either open (disconnected) or shorted.
  • Room Blower Failure: The fire is burning hot, but the room air fan never turns on to distribute heat, suggesting the sensor isn't telling the board the stove is warm.
  • Stove Shuts Down Early: The stove enters the startup sequence but shuts down after 15–20 minutes because it fails to detect a rise in temperature.
  • Visible Heat Damage: The sensor wires are melted, charred, or have been pinched in the stove’s side panels or by the auger motor.

Installation Tips

  • Power Down: Always unplug the stove and let it cool completely before opening the side or rear access panels.
  • Probe Placement: The sensor is typically mounted on the exhaust blower housing or a nearby firewall. Note the exact orientation of the old probe before removing the mounting screw to ensure accurate readings from the new unit.
  • Wire Routing: Avoid routing the wires near the exhaust pipe or moving parts like the auger shaft. Use high-heat zip ties to keep the wiring harness clear of hot surfaces.
  • Secure Connection: Ensure the molex connector is pushed all the way into the control board until it clicks; a loose plug is a common cause of intermittent "E-1" errors.
  • Clean the Area: While the stove is open, use a vacuum to remove ash buildup around the sensor mounting point, as excessive ash can insulate the probe and cause sluggish performance.

Very Expensive
Had one cylinder misfiring so replaced coil and spark plug. Runs fine now, but old plug looked shot after only 5 months so I think the coil was the problem. Really good plug so far but very expensive.

Work as well as the NGK's
Bought for a 2016 Mazda 6, I had NGK's in it for 5 months and had misfires, didnt have the money to throw more NGK's at it for troubleshooting. Bought these to try and they work great so far.

Faulty plug? Otherwise great set
Definitely better than the old plugs that probably had 80k miles on them. The one star off is because I had a misfire after installing. Not sure if I damaged the plug or what, but a reinstall didn't fix the misfire. In my genius, I rushed to try to gap it and ended up breaking the iridium tip. Put the old plug into cylinder 3 (where the misfire was) and it was fine. Gonna have to get a new single tomorrow at my local shop, but a bit frustrating to get a misfire after install.

Upgrade from OEM
After seeing a quite ludicrous $403 quote to change 4 spark plugs in a Mazda3 I decided to show my son how easy it is. These were an upgrade from OEM parts. They were gapped perfectly for the car. They took 20mins to fit and work fine.
