It's almost entirely heartwood with deep reddish brown color. There is a thin sliver of sapwood along one edge. The heartwood has very pretty swirling patterns in the grain. There is a thin sliver of sapwood along one edge. The heartwood has very pretty swirling patterns in the grain. This block has been air dried to 10-12% moisture content. There are a few minor bug holes and small cracks that you may wish to fill with epoxy -- black epoxy gives a beautiful pop of contrast with Mesquite. If you're turning this block, the borer holes and sapwood will turn off as you bring it to round. |
