It is entirely deep reddish purple heartwood with a smoothly linear to gently curving grain pattern. The board is sealed with Anchor Seal and has been air dried to ~12% moisture content. Not chew proof for little puppies

Our first Chihuahua when she was a puppy loved chewing on this and pieces never came off. Our second Chihuahua I guess was a heavier tour and he was able to get pieces flaked off.
