Rutherglen Estate Durif 2023 is an expressive and approachable Rutherglen Durif of genuine power and elegance — grown on De Bortoli’s Shelley’s vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region, on an interesting mix of gravel, clay, and alluvial soils that generates different flavour profiles across the site. Concentrated dark berry flavours of blueberry and blackberry, chocolate and mocha from careful oak maturation, and classic Durif tannins that provide excellent structure and grip whilst remaining well-integrated for a smooth, satisfying finish. Serve at 16–18°C.

Appearance

Deep, brooding red with vibrant crimson hues — excellent depth of colour that reflects the concentrated fruit character and intensity that make Durif so distinctive.

Aroma

Rich and fruit-forward — blueberries and blackberries lead an inviting bouquet, with spice, chocolate, and mocha adding complexity and depth, and well-integrated oak contributing subtle vanilla and toasted nuances.

Palate

Concentrated and layered — blueberry and blackberry are beautifully complemented by chocolate and mocha notes from careful oak maturation. Classic Durif tannins provide excellent structure and grip, yet remain well-integrated for a smooth and satisfying finish of real length and persistence. A wine of genuine power and elegance in equal measure.
