The inside look at one of the most captivating and consequential figures in our culture--with never-before-heard interviews.

Kobe Bryant's death in January 2020 did more than rattle the worlds of sports and celebrity. The tragedy of that helicopter crash, which also took the life of his daughter Gianna, unveiled the full breadth and depth of his influence on our culture, and by tracing and telling the oft-forgotten and lesser-known story of his early life, The Rise promises to provide an insight into Kobe that no other analysis has.

In The Rise, readers will travel from the neighborhood streets of Southwest Philadelphia--where Kobe's father, Joe, became a local basketball standout--to the Bryant family's isolation in Italy, where Kobe spent his formative years, to the leafy suburbs of Lower Merion, where Kobe's legend was born. The story will trace his career and life at Lower Merion--he led the Aces to the 1995-96 Pennsylvania state championship, a dramatic underdog run for a team with just one star player--and the run-up to the 1996 NBA draft, where Kobe's dream of playing pro basketball culminated in his acquisition by the Los Angeles Lakers.

In researching and writing The Rise, Mike Sielski had a terrific advantage over other writers who have attempted to chronicle Kobe's life: access to a series of never-before-released interviews with him during his senior season and early days in the NBA. For a quarter century, these tapes and transcripts preserved Kobe's thoughts, dreams, and goals from his teenage years, and they contained insights into and told stories about him that have never been revealed before.

This is more than a basketball book. This is an exploration of the identity and making of an icon and the effect of his development on those around him--the essence of the man before he truly became a man.

Size & fit great
Size: Large, Color: Vintage Indigo
The fit of the jean jacket was as described. I did order a large. I am 5'11'' The sleeves were Not long they were the proper length and came to my wrist as they should have. The color was a little darker than the picture but still a nice washed-out blue. Looking forward to years of wearing this jacket. The jacket is high quality with excellent stitching. I am a consumer and was not compensated for this review.

Runs a little large
Size: X-Large Tall, Color: Antique Indigo
Awesome jacket! I am a vintage Lee Rider jacket man since high school. All Made in USA from denim Made in USA. Oldest from High School. Think I bought a Wrangler jacket once and it was not fitted like a Rider, boxy and baggy. Returned it. Wanted to try a Wrangler or Levi jacket after wearing Lee jackets for over 50 years. Modern Lee are Lee by name. After reading a 100 reviews the Wrangler reviews were consistent. The Levi reviews were all over the place, small, large, thin, thick, all cotton, stretch, made no telling where. Ordered this jacket. Ordered a XL Tall. Usually wear a XXL. But running large was a consistent comment. Sized to fit a hoodie under. Built odd, 48 jacket, 37 shirt sleeves, 36 pants are loose fit. The sized down jacket fits a little loose. May shrink down a little, washed twice yesterday. But like all Bangladesh made clothes I have owned the quality is equal to my 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s Made in USA Lee Rider jackets. The denim is top quality, the stitching is even and well done. Not as slick as my Diamond Gusset denim jacket on finishing inside, think 700.00 suit coat quality, but equal to any of my five Lee jackets. This is a Tough Wear and not an Italian suit coat. Living in Houston we only see a month or two of jacket weather a year. Wearing shorts and tee shirt today. So stores do not stock year round. Amazon was a gamble on size and quality. Looked before ordering, no stores had jackets in stock after first of the year to try size and fit. I got lucky. Fit like a XXL Lee Rider or Diamond Gusset. Quality of denim and construction are top notch. Much recommended, just order down on size if you are borderline on sizes.

The jacket you'll love forever. . .
Size: X-Large Tall, Color: Vintage Indigo
Absolutely love this jacket! Very well made. Thick material. May not be the summer jacket, but still a great jacket for when it's just a little cool to go w/o something. And, WOW, does it look great!
