Description:

The second-century Greek physician Galen — the most famous doctor in antiquity after Hippocrates — is a central figure in Western medicine. A talented doctor, surgeon, writer, philosopher, teacher, pharmacologist, and inventor, Galen attended the court of Marcus Aurelius, living through outbreaks of plague (likely smallpox) that devastated the Roman Empire. He also served as physician for professional gladiators, boasting that only two fighters died during his first year (his predecessor had lost sixteen). In writings that provided the foundation of Western medicine up to the nineteenth century, Galen created a unified account of health and disease. In How to Be Healthy, practicing physician and classical historian Katherine Van Schaik presents a collection of Galen’s enduring insights about how we can take care of our bodies and minds, prevent disease, and reach a healthy old age.

Although we now know that many of Galen’s ideas about physiology are wrong, How to Be Healthy shows that much of his advice remains sound. In these selections from his writings, presented in fresh translations, Galen discusses the art of medicine, exercise and diet, the mind-body connection, the difficulty of applying general medical principles to individuals, and much more. Featuring an introduction, brief commentaries that connect ancient medical practices to modern ones, and the original Greek on facing pages, How to Be Healthy offers an entertaining and enlightening new perspective on the age-old pursuit of wellness, from the importance of 'the exercise with a small ball' to the benefits of 'avoiding distress'.

No flavor toothpaste with a high price
Style: Unflavored (Pack of 3)
Great product at a not very great price. Maybe you came across this product while searching for unflavored or flavorless toothpaste. Well this does the trick it has no minty flavor to interfere with your morning coffee or your autism. But why does less ingredients mean a higher cost? I’m looking for something bare bones, no taste, and cheaper than the toothpaste they sell at most stores filled with chemicals! Why is this so hard to find?

Acid Reflux and LPR
Style: Unflavored (Pack of 1)
I follow a dietician for those who deal with Acid reflux and LPR. Being without flavor especially peppermint, as mentioned by the dietician, can be helpful for some. I have found this to be true with this product. It seems to have helped reduce, or at least not add to, my feeling of throat and mouth burning.

Good Quality (when purchased)
Style: Unflavored (Pack of 1)
Genuinely the dream toothpaste I've been looking for since I don't like mint, its slightly sweet and the texture has a tiny bit of grit but overall its pretty good I'd say. But please be warned and look at the One star reviews, a lot of them are recent and are mentioning a change in the ingredients one of which said experienced a severe alergic reaction. A decrease in amount of toothpaste per tube, and lesser quality. I bought in bulk months and months prior but the one star reviews I've seen are all recent and oldest usually being from February. Heres hopes they change things back.

Doesn't improve breath but good for peeling
Style: Unflavored (Pack of 1)
I got this for two reasons: 1) regular toothpastes make my mucous membranes peel like crazy, 2) intense mint seems to heighten my post-nasal drip. This does not cause any peeling, which is great! The formula does foam up slightly, so it does feel like it is cleaning, if only gently. I'm not noticing a big difference with my post-nasal drip, which is okay, it was probably a long shot. The cons: The texture is quite runny and it seems like I have to use a lot to get the foam I'm used to. I know most people are using this because it doesn't have an intense flavor, but it does nothing to neutralize bad breath. I eat a lot of garlic and drink coffee, so it feels like I'm not freshening my breath much. It's also a bit pricey. I could see this being very valuable to someone with a true mint allergy, though.
