This is caused by a disruption in the brain function. If a seizure lasts for more than 3-5 minutes they should be seen by a veterinarian.

Zonisamide compounded oral liquid is given by mouth in liquid form once daily with or without food. If your pet vomits after dosing it on an empty stomach, try giving future doses with food. The effects should be noticeable within 1 to 2 days. Do not stop this medication suddenly or seizures may occur.
This medication should be given just as your veterinarian prescribes. It must be measured carefully, and it's best to use the syringe provided to ensure you are able to give the proper dosage required. After dosing your pet, rinse and dry the syringe, and screw the cap tightly onto the bottle.

Drug & Food Interactions
Drug Interactions: If your pet is on any of the following medications you should use zonisamide with caution:
- CYP3A Inducers:(e.g. carbamazepine, dexamethasone, rifampin) When combined may shorten the half-life of zonisamide and require dose adjustment.
- Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors:(CAIS, e.g. acetazolamide) When used at the same time with carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, it may increase the risk for metabolic acidosis and kidney stone formation.
- Phenobarbital: When combined with phenobarbital, higher doses of zonisamide may be required or phenobarbital doses might need to be decreased.
It is important to tell your veterinarian about any medications, supplements, vitamins, or supplements that your pet is taking.
Precautions
Zonisamide should not be given to pets that are hypersensitive or allergic to it. It should not be used in animals that are pregnant, breeding or have liver disease. It should be used with caution in pets that are nursing.
