It comes from a tree with numerous burl buds that extend out from the deep interior to form prominent ridges and mounds on the barky surface (top photo). One

This is a smaller bowl blank of Texas Ash, suitable for a bowl of approximately 5" diameter and 2 to 2-1/2 depth. This is a half-log blank with full bark on the back side, ready to be turned as either a conventional or natural-edge bowl. One large and at least two small buds are present in this blank.
The log was halved very close to the pith and all of the pith appears to have been removed. One very small and tight radial check is present on one face (bottom photo, but too small to see). I see no other structural flaws.

If I could give a Ten Star review, I would. Hands down the most comfortable pair of sandals I have ever owned.
I wore them 16 days straight while touring Italy. Comfortable and goes with all of your outfits. They pack well in a suitcase too. Light weight.

Wonderful
Super comfy and easy on and off, yet stylish imo! I could walk miles in these as a 56 yo and have worn them for three years! I hope they never stop making them. The only tweek I would suggest is to cover the footbed with leather or suede not cloth so they would last longer!

Lovely sandals!
I highly recommend!
These are so comfortable! Right out of the box, they can be worn all day. The velcro-adjustable straps are great for making for a perfect fit. The aren't clunky to wear, even though they appear to be. They're super cute, in my opinion. The sock liner is textile, so feet feel good all day, not slimy, like leather and suede can sometimes make feet feel if socks aren't worn.
