Details

The Riksdagsmarsch is an unusual work, in that it is a revision of a march composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1781 for his opera Idomeneo. It is not known how Mozart got ahold of his model, for Mozart's opera was all but unknown. During April-June 1783, however, both Kraus and Mozart lived in Vienna practically around the corner from each other on the Kohlmarkt, and while there is no mention of each other in their extensive correspondence, enough circumstantial evidence exists to suggest that some sort of personal contact was the most probable source of this march. Idomeneo is Mozart's most Gluckian opera, and Kraus, who was an ardent admirer of Gluck, would have immediately been drawn to it. But why he chose this particular work for the Gustavian court may have more to do with the Classical allusions than musical value. In the opera, King Idomeneo returns triumphantly to Crete after a long and ultimately victorious war with Troy to the jubilation of his people. Gustav's own propaganda about his military victories over Russia, his support of the local populace, and the patriotic paternalistic sentiment fits the march well. Kraus's reworking strengthens the power of the piece, with a more powerful emphasis upon the French dotted rhythms (surely a secondary allusion to the power of the French court, Sweden's traditional allies) and the extended fanfare-style coda. In his revision, Kraus has not only altered substantial portions of the work, he has extended it by over twenty bars.

This edition is based upon a set of autograph parts preserved in the Royal Opera Library in Stockholm under signature Kyrkomusik 32, corroborated with a score by Kraus's friend and librarian of the Royal Opera Per Frigel. Both the score and parts agree in detail, showing their authentic origin. In keeping with Kraus's extremely precise notation, little regularisation or emendation has been needed. The horn clefs have been modernised to treble from their original C clef notations, although this does not affect their actual transposing notation in the original. Appogiaturas are given by Kraus consistently as sixteenth notes, to be performed as grace notes if the principal not to which it is attached is not evenly divisible, as equal length if it is. In those few instances where towards the end where ornaments have been left out in the flutes, they have been tacitly added following parallel cadential structures in the strings and other winds. Slurs have been added in the bassoons in m. 80-82 following parallel articulation in the oboes, and any other additions have been added in brackets. Bertil van Boer

Flavor/Scent May Not Be Very Strong
My pup is picky about toys and the only ones that hold his interest are mostly the scented rubber toys from Playology, They’re great, but expensive, and I was really hoping this would be a cheaper alternative. It really looked like the kind of toy he likes. It’s heavy rubber with a softer texture than the hard toys out there, and it had a lot of surface grooves that lets him grip it with his teeth easily. I gave it to him and he was excited for all of 30 seconds, then he discarded it and hasn’t looked at it since. I suspect the flavor/scent may not be as strong but that’s just a guess. I don’t know if it’s a flaw in the toy or simply a picky pup, so I hesitate to rate this down for that. It does look like a really nice toy and if your dog isn’t a jerk like mine it may be great, and it’s definitely a good price.

Heavy duty rubber bone
This bone is really heavy duty. It's got a groove down the middle of you you can put your pups favorite lickable treat. My 36 lb aussie enjoyed chewing on this and was nibbling the ends. This bone has held up to her chewing it with only a couple little pieces coming off.

Big hit with my super chewer.
Here’s an expanded, Amazon-friendly version that keeps a natural, human tone while adding helpful detail: This is a truly heavy-duty chew bone and a great option for aggressive chewers. The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the package was the weight. It’s solid and well made, so it definitely feels like it’s built to last. Because of that, I would recommend being mindful when handing it to your dog and avoiding tossing or dropping it on hard floors or toes. My dog, Yukon, was instantly thrilled with it. From the moment I gave it to him, he’s been carrying it around proudly and settling in to chew on it for long stretches of time. It’s kept his attention much better than lighter chews, and it’s holding up well to his strong jaws so far. I also love that it provides great enrichment and gives him a safe, satisfying outlet for his chewing instincts. Overall, this chew bone has been a big hit in our house. If you have a powerful chewer and are looking for something durable that will actually keep them engaged, this is a solid choice. I’m very glad I picked it up for Yukon and would recommend it to other dog owners with heavy chewers.

Immediate Hit With My Power Chewer!
Immediate hit. Like, didn’t even make it fully out of the package before my dog was sniffling around the package, all excited. I have a serious chewer, the kind that treats most toys like a personal challenge. This one has actually held up. It’s firm and tough, but not rock hard like those nylon bones that make me nervous about teeth. There’s a little bit of give to it, which I like. The beef flavor must be legit because he keeps going back to it. This isn’t one of those toys that gets ignored after five minutes. He’s been happily gnawing on it and hasn’t managed to destroy it yet, which honestly says a lot in this house. I also like the shape and texture. It’s easy for him to hold, and the ridges seem to keep him engaged longer. Bonus points if it’s helping his teeth even a little, because chewing is already his favorite hobby. No toy is truly indestructible, but this has definitely earned its place in the “worth buying again” category. If you’ve got a medium to large dog who lives to chew, this one’s a solid win.

Great Chew Toy for Destructive Dogs
I got this toy for our lab/pit mix, who tends to destroy most chew toys. He seems to really enjoy it so far, preferring it over his other toys. I'm not sure if it’s just the novelty of a new toy, or whether he actually likes the "real beef flavor," but either way, he's definitely into it. I’ve noticed some small teeth marks in the rubber, but nothing that concerns me too much at this point. My kids thought it looked pretty gross when I first pulled it out, which always makes me laugh! Overall, I'm very satisfied with the toy’s performance so far. It seems durable and I hope it lasts a long time--based on how things are going, I think it will. It's definitely worth the price.
