The Royal Australian Infantry Corps (RA Inf) is the originator of all infantry regiments of the Australian Army. Founded in 1948 by King George VI, it was elevated to Royal Corps status. In 1953, Queen Elizabeth II became its Colonel-in-Chief. It comprises several battalions of the Royal Australia Regiment and six regional infantry regiments, e.g. Royal New South Wales Regiment. Moreover, numerous Army Regional Force Surveillance and Special Forces units are also part of this corps.
