A joik is a traditional song performed by the Sami, the indigenous people of Sápmi (northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the northwestern part of Russia). It is similar to the traditional chanting of native American cultures, and each joik represents a particular place, person or animal.

With that in mind, there's no wonder that "Spirit in the Sky" with KEiiNO was a crowd pleaser in the 2019 Eurovision song contest. The song itself was written by Tom Hugo and his husband Alex Olsson, and was performed by Tom, Alexandra Rotan, and sami rapper Fred Buljo. The song is inspired by the historical struggles for equality. Although they finished only 6th, they received the most points of any song from the audience votes.
