Dan Davin was the author of the only substantial body of war fiction written by a New Zealand soldier during any of the wars of the 20th century in which the nation was engaged. The General and the Nightingale brings together Davin’s 20 war stories, some drawn from his war diaries and loosely based on his experiences as â€a wartime scholar-soldier’ and those of his fellow soldiers in the British and New Zealand armies. They yield an unparalleled insight into the Kiwi or Anzac soldier at war during the Mediterranean and African desert campaigns of World War II. Editor Janet Wilson notes they can be read as â€fictionalised accounts rather than imaginative fictions’. Born and raised in a working-class Catholic family in Southland, Davin was a Rhodes Scholar and had recently completed a degree at Oxford when he enlisted in the British Army in 1939. After receiving a commission in 1940 he successfully applied to be transferred to the New Zealand forces. He saw active service in Greece and North Africa, was wounded in Crete, and rose to become General Freyberg’s intelligence officer in the Italian campaign. The General and the Nightingale updates an earlier collection of Davin’s war stories published in 1986 as The Salamander in the Fire and long out of print. This new publication features comprehensive notes, a glossary, a chronology, a map of story locations, a bibliography and an extensive introduction by Janet Wilson. It is a companion volume to The Gorse Blooms Pale: Dan Davin’s Southland short stories (OUP, 2007), which is also being reissued.

Prepare to love your Apple remote again!
This is a must buy for anyone that owns an Appte TV. The remotes are small, and sleek, and slippery. My whole family drops or loses the remote constantly. It was a constant struggle.
After slipping on the teal blue silicon sleeve it was like we had a whole new remote.
It makes the remote much less slick feeling. Not nearly as easy to drop.
The bright blue color makes it super simple to spot in the couch cushions or on the counter.
The sleeve provides protection from the all too common drops that happen everyday.
It does make the remote slightly thicker, but that isn't a bad thing. It fits in your hand much better and makes operation easier too.
Well worth the price and you get two!
Totally recommend these.

Great value, solves a big problem!
Wow, what a great product, so inexpensive for two, and solved one of my biggest aggravations. This remote fits perfectly over the apple TV remote. The remote is so slippery, black, and it is not designed to be able to tell which way is up. This cover solves every problem. It is no non-stick, I don't lose it anymore. I used to drop it once a day at least - no more dropping the remote. It fits just right, you can easily tell which way is the up. It fits just right, and you can still use every feature of the touch pad, the fast forward, etc. Just right!!! Excellent!!!

Great fit, tether / lanyard probably won't stay on long
A great fit and deal for the money. It's well-balanced in the hand, and makes the remote much less awkward to use. I have two Apple TV's in the house, and the different colors help keep the remotes straight.
There's a lanyard that attaches to a small little bit of silicone. Having the lanyard is nice, but it doesn't stay connected because the bit of plastic is so small, it rips even under a small force. It's still completely useful and worth the purchase to me without the lanyard, but if the lanyard is a dealbreaker for you, you may wish to reconsider. I can't imagine it staying on very long in any environment. 2 kids and a cat it lasted about 20 minutes.

Look and feel
The PINOWU sleeve is a budget-friendly, functional, and stylish upgrade for your Fire TV remote. It delivers reliable protection, better grip, and even a glow-at-night feature, all at a sensible price. Just watch for compatibility issues with newer remotes and expect a snug fit that requires a bit of effort to remove occasionally. If you’re looking to safeguard your remote from drops, keep it visibly handy, and enjoy an extra bright color option, this sleeve is worth considering.
