Please note that, depending on the individual horse's mouth conformation, the port may also act on the roof of the mouth if it touches. The sliding cheek makes the bit more mobile than a fixed cheek

The sliding cheek makes the bit more mobile than a fixed cheek in the horse's mouth. This gives the rider extra feel and helps to encourage salivation and mouthing of the bit. The horse is also rewarded for a correct response by an instant release of pressure when rein aids are relaxed.
