As with its larger cousin, the Type 95 served well in the opening months of the war in the Pacific, engaging the American Provisional Tank Group's M3 Stuarts in the first tank on tank combat of the Pacific War. As a light tank, the Type 95's role changed the least during the war, as it was never meant to engage medium tanks head on.
