Here's an attractive piece of lightly spalted Sweet Gum.  The colors are a light brown with peach overtones.  The spalting lines are deep brown.  The grain is long and fairly straight but with some gentle curve on several faces. 

This piece has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.  It has a borer tunnel along one edge and a small knot on one face.  There are some minor end-checks that you might wish to treat with thin CA glue prior to turning.

They don't appear to be very durable, get holes in toe or holes in heels, but 3 pack is relatively inexpensive so I continue to buy them. I do not use them for everyday casual wear because they would wear out very quickly compared to other similar sockets...
