De naam Passiflora caerulea betekent blauwe passiebloem, genoemd naar de prachtige grote witte bloemen met een blauwe kern die deze plant geeft. En groot zijn ze! De bloemen van de Passiflora Caerulea kunnen zo’n 8 cm doorsnede worden. Absoluut een echte eyecather in de tuin!

De Passiflora caerulea is een klimplant die graag langs een pergola, muur of rek groeit. Deze plant wikkelt zichzelf eromheen. De passiebloem kan uitgroeien tot zo’n 3 meter hoog. De takken van deze plant zijn dun en flexibel. Een plek uit de volle wind is dan ook aan te raden, omdat ze een goede steun nodig hebben om niet om te knakken.
De passiebloem is eenvoudig in vorm te snoeien als deze te groot wordt. De bloemen groeien namelijk op de jonge takken. Na de vorst, rond april en mei, kun je het beste de zware, oude en dode takken eraf knippen. Zijtakken kunnen boven de ogen worden gesnoeid om de plant zo uit te dunnen als dat gewenst is.

Hoe verzorg ik mijn Passiflora caerulea?
De passiebloem staat graag op een zonnige plek. Hoe meer zon, hoe meer mooie bloemen. Winterse temperaturen zijn voor deze tuinplant geen probleem. Hij is namelijk winterhard tot -12 graden Celsius. Bij langdurige vorst is het raadzaam om de grond om de plant heen af te dekken. Het is een sterke plant die goed groeit. De Passiflora caerulea houdt niet van natte voeten. De grond moet goed water doorlaatbaar, licht en luchtig zijn.

Hoe ziet mijn passiebloem er precies uit?
De geleverde Passiflora caerulea kan, afhankelijk van het bestelmoment, afwijken van de getoonde afbeeldingen. Omdat een plant een natuurproduct is met verschillende groei- en bloeistadia, is het niet mogelijk altijd exact de juiste stadia in afbeeldingen weer te geven. The wood is great.
