Achter deze expressieve stijl staat familie Malavasi, met hun wijngaarden in Pozzolengo, net ten zuiden van het Gardameer. Hier zorgen de warme zon, de verkoelende invloed van het meer en de frisse Pelér-wind voor een uniek microklimaat. De druiven rijpen langzaam en gelijkmatig, waardoor ze hun frisheid behouden.

De Upupa wordt gemaakt van turbiana, de inheemse druif van Lugana. Op de kalkrijke bodem, vol minerale zouten, ontwikkelt hij zijn typische finesse en spanning. In de kelder kiest Malavasi voor een pure stijl, zonder vatrijping. Alles draait om zuiverheid en het karakter van de druif zelf.

Deze wijn voelt zich overal thuis. Heerlijk als aperitief, maar ook prachtig bij sushi, vitello tonnato of een pasta met vongole.

Upupa betekent hop, een vogel die hier veel voorkomt. Net als deze wijn hoort hij helemaal bij dit landschap.
