Taal zegt voor mij iets over de afstand die het menselijk bewustzijn in staat is te nemen tegenover zichzelf en tegenover de werkelijkheid waartoe de taal zelf ook behoort. Met deze afstand heb ik als schrijver de grootst mogelijke verbondenheid.
Wanneer we als lezer of als schrijver op deze afstand gaan staan tegenover onszelf, kunnen we misschien wel een glimp opvangen van wie we zijn.'
