Deze Francis Ford Coppola Diamond Collection Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands is de trotse opvolger van de eerder bekende Sonoma County Chardonnay. In deze nieuwe expressie uit de gekoelde kustregio Santa Lucia Highlands toont Coppola opnieuw zijn klasse, met een rijkdom aan aroma’s, subtiele houttonen en een elegante, zijdezachte structuur.

Herkomst – invloed van mist en oceaan

De druiven voor deze wijn groeien in de Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, een gebied ten zuiden van Monterey Bay waar maritieme invloeden zorgen voor frisse winden, ochtendmist en geleidelijke rijping. Dankzij dit klimaat ontwikkelen de Chardonnay-druiven een diepe concentratie met verfijnde zuren en een indrukwekkende aromatische expressie.

Vinificatie en rijping – negen maanden op eiken

Deze wijn wordt gemaakt van 100% Chardonnay. Het merendeel van de blend rijpt negen maanden op Franse en Hongaarse eikenhouten vaten. Die zorgvuldige opvoeding geeft de wijn een subtiele, geïntegreerde houttoon en een romige textuur die perfect samengaat met de frisse fruittonen.

Proefnotities – volle charme en verfijning

In de neus opent deze Chardonnay met aroma’s van appel, vijgen, crème brûlée en kamperfoelie. In de mond volgen tonen van geroosterd brood, gemengde noten en bakspijzen, afgerond met een zijdezacht middenpalet en een lange, elegante finale. De structuur is krachtig maar verfijnd, met een indrukwekkend ronde balans.

Serveertips – breed inzetbaar aan tafel

Deze wijn is een uitstekende match bij gegrilde kip of varkenskoteletten, maar ook bij zeeduivel, coquilles of een krabsalade. Schenk deze Chardonnay op een temperatuur tussen 12 en 16 °C om het beste uit elke slok te halen.
