There are a few overdrives that truly deserve to be called “legendary.” One of them is, without a doubt, the green stomp that drove many guitar sounds straight to that sweet spot. At the intersection of Highway 61 and Junction 49 lies the official intersection of Clarksdale, Mississippi—the birthplace of the Delta Blues. This historic city and the famous music made there are responsible for the inspiration behind this pedal: the Clarksdale Overdrive. Blues and non-blues guitarists alike have been using Tube Screamer®-type circuits for years to help them create their personal signature sound. Over the years, countless players have asked Brian to create that world-famous vintage mid-range overdrive—and now he has finally succeeded! The Clarksdale is our take on the world-famous lime green overdrive that many of us have come to love—with, of course, a few great Wampler-style improvements. The world of boutique pedals is filled with many great clones of that already famous circuit – so what more can be done? Wampler wanted to create a pedal that would stay true to the sound and feel of the original, but that would have a wider range of tonal options – to satisfy even the biggest tone hunters. With the addition of a 3-band EQ (bass and midrange are active, and the treble is comparable to the classic TS tone potentiometer), a player can have a more tailored tonal palette than the original. With the Lift/Smooth switch, a player can either sit in the mix with the Smooth setting or let your leads stand out with the Lift option. Also, unlike the original “green giant,” the Clarksdale will not “drop out” as much at low or high gain settings. The Clarksdale stands with one foot in the past and one foot firmly in the future. Your search for the perfect vintage midrange overdrive is finally over.
