De perfecte ligging voor Kendall Jackson

Kendall-Jackson is één van Californisch jongste, meest toonaangevende wijnhuizen. Als meer dan twee decennia lang produceert Kendall-Jackson verfijnde wijnen in Californië. Het succes van de in 1974 opgerichte wijnhuis is mede dankzij de perfecte ligging van de wijngaarden. De druiven zijn grotendeels afkomstig uit de koelere kuststreken van Californië, waar ze alle tijd en ruimte krijgen om hun aroma en smaak rijkdom te ontwikkelen. Daarbij gaat het wijnhuis met veel respect voor de natuur te werk. Ze gebruiken alternatieve methoden om chemische bestrijdingsmiddelen zoveel mogelijk te verminderen. Het regenwater wordt opgevangen in reservoirs om gewassen mee te bewateren en verpakkings- en promotiematerialen worden gerecycled. De druiven zijn afkomstig van Santa Maria Valley en Santa Barbera Country wijngaarden op grootte hoogte op rotsachtige bodem. De druivenplanten overleven hier al meer dan 40 jaar op een prehistorische zeebodem. Je mag hier dus spreken van een Terroir-wijn. De Chardonnay druiven worden hier handmatig geoogst waarna een strenge selectie volgt. De wijn rijpt 12 maanden op eikenhouten vaten waardoor de Chardonnay meer body krijgt. Ook rijpt hij sur lie, wat vulling en extra smaak geeft aan deze witte wijn.

De geur en smaak van Jackson Estate Camelot Highlands Chardonnay?

In de geur is dit goed merkbaar, mooie geuren van tropische fruit, abrikozen, mango, hazelnoten en vanille. De smaak is typische Chardonnay, vol romig met een dikke structuur. Veel fruit nuances van abrikozen en gele pruimen aangevuld met tonen van kaneel, citroenstroop en vanille crème brûlée zorgen voor een aantrekkelijke ervaring.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
