De wijnstreek Veneto is een groot en bekend wijngebied in het noorden van Italië. Het strekt zich grofweg uit tussen het Gardameer en de stad Verona aan de westzijde en de stad Padova aan de oostkant. Het uitgestrekte wijngebied staat bijvoorbeeld bekend om de traditionele Valpolicella wijnen. Gemaakt van lokale druivenrassen als Rondinella, Corvina en Croatina. De ster van de streek is de Amarone della Valpolicella. Deze wijn wordt net als het kleinere zusje Ripasso gemaakt door het fruit in te laten drogen alvorens te persen. Deze appasimento techniek wordt breed ingezet bij de rode wijnen in Veneto. Ook de Amicone wordt deels volgens deze methode geproduceerd. Naast de traditionele rode wijnen is er ook veel witte aanplant in het gebied. Druiven als Garganega en Trebbiano voeren hier de boventoon met als meest bekende wijn de Soave. Vandaag de dag is er in Veneto ook steeds meer aanplant van internationale druivenrassen te ontwaren. Bijvoorbeeld Merlot en Cabernet Sauvignon geven goede resultaten in het gebied.

Amicale is een volle wijn, gemaakt van o.a. Corvina, Molinara en Rondinella. De druiven worden gedurende 120 dagen ingedroogd in kleine kistjes, waardoor de concentratie van het sap enorm toeneemt. Na vinificatie krijgt de jonge wijn enkele maanden rijping op eikenhout. De blend is karakteristiek voor de rode wijnen uit deze streek en er is een duidelijke verwantschap met de ripasso-stijl.

Amicone is zeer fruit-intensief. Het is een volle, maar soepele rode wijn. Door de appasimento techniek heeft de wijn tonen van zwarte kersen, cassis en laurier, maar ook licht houtgebruik in de neus. het mondgevoel is fruitrijk, zacht en romig met een zwoele ondertoon.

I got the regular twin size for my toddler’s bed. Before, he had a yellow foam topper (one of the cheap ones) and a mattress protector that barely stretched to the bottom of the mattress. I LOVE that this is such a deep fit so I didn’t need to worry about it coming up a lot. We have a standard size twin mattress. For breathability, it does seem like it might trap heat- it is very warm to lay on the mattress now, but that doesn’t bother us. It is comfortable to lay on the mattress. I don’t think it is as thick as the foam topper we had, but that was expected. For a waterproof topper, it’s a pretty good fluffiness. Washing: Hours fit in our washing machine fine. However, I did have to dry it three times. You can’t dry it with anything else or whatever else is in there gets bundled up inside it. I didn’t take a star off for this because we generally have to run loads a second time in our dryer anyways, and it might be because of the weight that it takes longer to dry. overall, I am happy with the purchase! My toddler’s bed is much more “in place” with the sheets, it’s still comfortable and the cost is worth the money to me.
