Story
Every spring and fall, I hear the Sandhill Cranes migrate north and south, high above us on the Skeena River. In August of 2024, I visited Haida Gwaii with my family and enjoyed meeting with relatives there. While visiting the beautiful islands of Gwaii Hanas, I discovered nesting Sandhill Cranes. I heard these birds every day, and one day, I got to call them, and they called back. I enjoyed the cranes daily and discovered they migrate to the islands and nest there to raise their young.
My great grandfather, Amos Collinson, was from Haida Gwaii, and I felt at home there and discovered the Sandhill Cranes. I look forward to visiting Haida Gwaii soon.
