The Blackmagic Design Spares - Micro Studio Camera 4K - Main PCB is the heart of the world’s smallest Ultra HD live broadcast camera. Because the Micro 4K is designed for professional "hidden" use (crash cams, gimbals, and remote studio setups), the Main PCB is engineered for 24/7 reliability in a tiny, heat-intensive footprint.

This board handles the massive processing overhead of 6G-SDI 4K video—four times the data rate of the standard Micro Cinema Camera.

Core Responsibilities

  • 4K Video Pipeline: Manages the 6G-SDI output, capable of delivering $2160\text{p}30$ over a single BNC cable.

  • Bi-Directional Control: Houses the logic for the SDI Return Feed, allowing an ATEM switcher to send Tally, Talkback, and CCU (Color Camera Unit) data back to the camera through the PCB.

  • Micro Four Thirds (MFT) Communication: Powers the electronic lens mount, managing iris and focus motor control for Panasonic/Olympus lenses.

  • DB-15 Expansion Logic: Directs the S.Bus and PTZ control signals for remote head integration.

When to Replace the Micro 4K Main PCB

The most common reasons for a total board swap include:

  • SDI Port Failure: If the SDI ports are physically fine but the camera outputs only a "Black" signal or no signal at all, the SDI driver chips on the PCB are likely blown (often caused by "hot-plugging" SDI cables with a voltage differential).

  • Control Lockout: The camera outputs video but ignores all CCU/ATEM commands or S.Bus remote inputs.

  • Sensor Desync: The image shows permanent digital noise, green lines, or "tearing" that persists even without a lens attached.

  • Total Power Loss: The camera is unresponsive to the 12V expansion cable power or the LP-E6 battery.

Plus vs. Studio: A Warning

Do not confuse the Micro Studio 4K PCB with the Micro Cinema Camera PCB.

  • The Studio 4K board has 6G-SDI I/O and no internal SD card slot.

  • The Cinema board has an SD card slot and no SDI.

The internal mounting points and ribbon cable headers are different; they are not interchangeable.

Technical Installation Note

DANGER: Level 5 (Expert) Repair. This is arguably the most difficult Blackmagic camera to service.

  1. Miniature Ribbons: The internal ribbon cables (FPC) for the sensor and the HDMI port are extremely fragile and very short. You have approximately $10\text{mm}$ of "slack" to work with when opening the case.

  2. Thermal Dissipation: The Micro 4K runs very hot. The Main PCB uses a "thermal sandwich" design, where heat is pulled from the processor into the magnesium alloy outer shell. When replacing the PCB, you must use fresh, high-conductivity thermal pads. If the pads are missing or misaligned, the camera will overheat and shut down in under 2 minutes.

  3. Sensor Calibration: The sensor is often shimmed to the PCB to ensure it is perfectly parallel to the lens mount. If the new PCB is slightly thicker or thinner, you may notice "soft corners" on wide-angle lenses, requiring you to re-shim the MFT mount.

  4. Static Control: This board is packed with high-speed CMOS components. A single static spark to the DB-15 or SDI ports during installation will destroy the board.

Expert Advice: If your camera isn't communicating with your ATEM switcher, check the SDI Return cable and the Camera ID settings in the menu first. Swapping the PCB is a "last resort" repair. If the camera powers on and shows an image via HDMI but not SDI, the SDI driver on the PCB is definitely the culprit.

Is your camera failing to output video entirely, or are you having issues specifically with the SDI or remote control functions?

Consistent, Vibrant Results That Match My Designs Perfectly
Color: 1BK/1C/1Y/1M
I’ve been consistently purchasing this Hiipoo sublimation ink for my sublimation printers, and I’ve been extremely pleased with the results. The print quality is excellent, with vibrant colors and clean transfers every time. What I really appreciate is how true the final product turns out compared to my original designs. The colors stay accurate, and the finished results look exactly the way I intended, which is very important for my projects and products. This ink has been reliable and consistent, and I will definitely continue using it for my sublimation work.

Great quality, Great price
Color: 1BK/1C/1Y/1M
Excellent transfer and image quality. It really does work in an Epson Eco tank, as long as you never fill it with the Epson ink.
