Along the ridges of each stem, small brownish spines and occasional leaf remnants can be seen. During the growing season, Euphorbia schoenlandii produces small yellow-green cyathia (flowers) that add subtle contrast to its angular form. Like many members of the Euphorbia genus, it contains a milky latex sap that is toxic if ingested or if it comes into contact with skin. Drought-tolerant and easy to grow, this species is a favorite among collectors of unusual and architectural succulents.
