Joanna Libertad Arroyo grew up in Northern California in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family. During this time, she encountered so many idioms from my friends, parents, and teachers and most of those idioms have stuck with her throughout her life. What Joanna enjoys the most about colloquial or informal language is how it can influence and shape our life experiences and relationships with other people. She created the Book of North American Idioms because she wanted to educate native English speakers and non-native English speakers about how vital idioms are in the English language. The idioms help and support all English speakers because they facilitate communication between all English speakers regardless of their comprehension and skill levels. Idioms are used in everyday in English colloquial or English informal language to communicate with other people. In many cases, idioms are created by both English Native and non-native speakers because they are shaped by the different cultures and regions that comprise the United States of America and the rest of the North American countries.

About the Author

Joanna’s passions include creating art, writing poetry, and writing both short and long fiction. Some of Joanna's works, her art and poetry have been published in her Alma Mater's Notre Dame De Namur University's Art and Literary Journal, The Bohemian.

Β

She has worked with both children and adult learners throughout her career as an educator and a tutor and is also very passionate about managing and teaching in After School Programs for children. Joanna has always been fascinated by the way children and adult learners learn because it is what has led her to become a better teacher. Every time that she teaches a new lesson, she credits her growth as an educator to how much she has learned from her students.

Joanna still has poetry that she has yet to publish and looks forward to sharing!

Great characters, great art, too many loose ends
Format: Paperback
I want to love it; it has great art and realistic characters in a interesting setting, but even by the end of the first volume I was left with nothing but questions. I feel like nothing ever got explained and it took away from the quality of the comic. I'm sure if I continue reading I will get the answers I want, but it feels like the pacing of the story is just a little off. Still a stellar comic.

Can't get past the art
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book blind, knowing nothing about the creators and with no expectations. While I thought the story was interesting and generally well-executed, sometimes the intrusion of the writer's thoughts, the attempts to break the fourth wall, and the wink-wink, nudge-nudge gags at the fans grow tiresome. But the writing is the strength compared to the art, which in my opinion is poor at best. The artist lacks anatomical skills, perspective skills -- the art almost never fills the frame. The splash pages are underwhelming because the figures are so small. Even the parts of the story that are supposed to be "cartoony" (the 5th dimension), which might better fit this artist's abilities, don't work. I really feel this could have been a significantly better product with a different artist.
