To celebrate the year of the Dragon we are delighted to present our limited-edition Dragon Pendant, and share the story of how this charismatic and gifted creature managed to secure its place on the Chinese Zodiac.
Long, long ago, the Jade Emperor invited all animals to compete in a race with the purpose of selecting 12 animals to be his personal guards. The Emperor sent an immortal messenger into the land of men with the message that those 12 who finished through the heavenly gates first would be included in the Zodiac.
The start of the race was along the bank of a fast-flowing river which the animals would need to negotiate to reach the finish line on the other side.
In fifth place came the mighty dragon, who flew over the finishing line breathing fire out of his mouth. βWhy did you not come first?β asked the puzzled Jade Emperor. The dragon explained that along the way he had to stop and make rain for all the people and creatures in the world, which caused him to be delayed. Then, whilst flying over the river he noticed a little rabbit set adrift on a log, so he blew a puff of wind to carry the log to the shore. Pleased with the dragons acts of kindness, the Jade Emperor granted him the fifth place in the Zodiac. Our Zodiac Dragon Pendant encompasses this act of kindness and holds the spirit of the Dragon within its ruby eyes.
This Pendant has been designed by Alexander to honour these powerful mythological creatures and to commemorate the lucky Year of the Dragon.
