She secured her popularity as a storyteller and her status as a major voice in American literature in 1942 with the instant success of Cross Creek, the autobiographical vignettes that highlight her ability to create short fiction. Still, no assessment of the full range and power of her talent has been possible without this volume of all twenty-three of her published short stories, collected together here for the first time. Most appeared in Scribner's Magazine, The New Yorker, Harper's Magazine and the Saturday Evening Post. Scribner's printed Rawlings's first short story, "Cracker Chidlings," in 1931, just three years after she moved to an orange grove in the backwoods of north-central Florida. With a mix of frontier morality, ingenuity, and humor, the story introduced readers to Fatty Blake's squirrel pilau and 'Shiner Tim's corn liquor. Just as important, it brought her work to the attention of Maxwell Perkins, the famous Scribner's editor, who recognized her talent for storytelling and her eye for detail and who encouraged her to capture human drama in more "Cracker" stories. Though Rawlings was at home in a man's world, much of her short fiction is told in a woman's voice. She is merciless in "Gal Young 'Un" as she bores in on two women, both competing for the same man and struggling for their dignity. The story, published in Harper's, was awarded the O. Henry Memorial Prize for best short story of 1932 and was made into a prize-winning movie in 1979. Her most autobiographical story, "A Mother in Mannville," describes the sense of personal loss endured by a childless woman writer. Often at her best combining satire and sarcasm, Rawlings wrote a series of comic stories that featured Quincey Dover, her alter ego. "She is, of course, me," Rawlings wrote, "if I had been born in the Florida backwoods and weighed nearly three hundred pounds." One story Quincey narrates, "Benny and the Bird Dogs," reportedly amused Robert Frost so much that he fell off a rocking chair in a fit of uncontrollable laughter while listening to Rawlings read from it. Like others who wrote about the South, Rawlings grappled with the problem of how to portray honestly, yet without racism, the situation and the language of her neighbors. Her empathetic description of blacks and her portrayal of the Florida Cracker contribute a valuable perspective on twentieth-century American culture in transition.

Comfortable summer wear. Runs a little big and long
Color: Blueoval, Size: Small, Color: Blueoval, Size: Small
This is a very comfortable polo. I can tell from the features that the shirt is pretty much designed for golf.
- Very light weight like tees for runners. It is see through if not for the printed pattern.
- Definitely breathable, perfect for dry weather region. Will keep you dry throughout the round and does not cling onto the body to inhibit motion. Structure stays crisp throughout the round.
- Stretchable, does not restrict motion during golf, sweat or not.
- Longer length to stay tuck in.
Note:
- It runs big overall. The model shown is 6’1” and he is wearing a Medium. Seeing that, I bought a Small even though I normally wear medium. It fits my upper body perfectly with a little room to spare.
- It also runs a little long. It will definitely stay tucked in throughout the round. However, it is too long for me to wear it untucked. I am 5’ 8”.
Overall I like the shirt’s quality and a reasonable price for a golf shirt. It would have been perfect had it not been a little long for untuck wear.

Stylish, Comfortable, and Very Versatile Shirt
Color: Navygeometry, Size: Medium, Color: Navygeometry, Size: Medium
This is a very nice‑looking shirt and it fits perfectly for my size. The design really stands out, and the blue color with the white accents looks sharp and clean without being too bold.
The collar and buttons are good quality and add a nice, finished touch to the shirt. It feels well made and holds its shape nicely when worn. Comfort is another big plus—it’s comfortable enough to wear without an undershirt, which is great for warmer days.
What I really like is how versatile it is. You can easily dress it up for business casual with a sport coat, wear it with khakis or jeans, as well as for golfing. It works well in a lot of different settings without looking out of place.
It comes in at a good price point for the quality, and it would make a nice gift as well. Overall, a great‑looking, comfortable shirt that offers excellent value and flexibility.

Comfortable Polo Shirt
Color: Lightbluedot, Size: X-Large, Color: Lightbluedot, Size: X-Large
This shirt arrived quickly, and was vacuum wrapped (see photo). The sizing was appropriate, and the fit is comfortable. It still looks great after a few times through the wash. Recommended.

#1 Winterwear Choice
My favorite jacket I own. This jacket is not only one of the most stylish articles of clothing I have, but perhaps one of the warmest. When I bought an XL I got an XL, it fits perfect. Its heavy for a denim jacket, but that means it is built with quality. Not only does it have a clean aesthetic, but it is extremely utilitarian: If you're getting a jacket, you're getting it for a purpose. This jacket serves that purpose, in fact it serves multiple. This jacket has deep pockets, so your valubles don't slip out while standing or sitting. The price for this jacket is phenomenal, and almost unreasonable for the manufacturer compared to the actual quality you get. The materials to make this jacket may be inexpensive or cheap, but they certainly don't don't look or feel that way. If this jacket ever tears or gets ruined, I'm just going to buy another honestly. I highly recommend this jacket to anyone who wants quality, warmth, durability, aesthetic, and a budget conscious choice compared to designer brand apparel.

Great Quality
My son Loves this Jacket. He specifically asked for one for Christmas and this one met his every expectation. It is great quality. It is thick and warm without being too bulky. I sized up for him since he is a growing teenager and it still fits great and he will be able to wear it next winter too if he wants.
