Fancy guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are very hardy and undemanding in aquaria and the usual freshwater tropical set-up & parameters will allow them to do well.
They thrive in planted tanks, as this more closely mimics their natural environment. Poecilia reticulata prefers reasonably hard (10 β 15 dGH, pH 6.8 β 7.8) and warm water at 24Β°C β 25Β°C, but this is not a strict requirement.
Keep in mind, the warmer the water, the faster they grow; however, this may also shorten their lifespan.
The fancy guppies make an excellent choice for reasonably small desktop aquariums but do enjoy a roomy environment when available to them.
They get along extremely well with other peaceful fish in a community setup. Males grow up to 30 β 40 mm, and females slightly larger β up to 40 β 50 mm in size.
