Play along with Alan Kaplan and a full big band to songs from the great American songbook.

In a world where the trombone is mostly considered just a background instrument, Alan Kaplan stands out. Growing up in Los Angeles he began playing at the age of eight. He tried to prepare for a “real” job, majoring in engineering at LA Valley College, but by the age of nineteen he was on the road with Buddy Rich. He was the youngest trombonist ever to play lead with that band. The next few years found him playing with big band legends such as Harry James, Louis Bellson, Don Ellis, and Lionel Hampton. By the late 70’s he was being compared to trombone greats like Carl Fontana and Frank Rosolino.

Recent years have found Kaplan settled back in his hometown. His skills honed on the road, he now enjoys his position as one of the top studio trombone players in Los Angeles. His recording credits vary vastly from Marvin Gaye to Johnny Mathis to Madonna to Placido Domingo to Sarah Vaughan to Oingo Boingo to Whitney Houston to the Hollywood Bowl orchestra, Josh Grobin, Michael Buble, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Muse, and countless more.

Kaplan’s TV credits include such shows as Hawaii 5-0, Dynasty, Voyager, Star Trek, Home Front, Buddy Faro and hundreds of others. He has been the featured trombone soloist on more than 1000 cartoons such as Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Tazmania, Pinky and the Brain, 101 Dalmations, Timon and Pumbaa and many others. He is currently working on The Simpsons, Penny Dreadful, Family Guy, American Dad, Revenge, Agent Carter, and Galavant. He was a regular member of the staff bands on the Merv Griffin, Joan Rivers, and Star Search Shows. For several years, Alan has been in the orchestra on the Academy Awards. He also was in the band for the Jerry Lewis Telethon for many years.

In 1994 and again in 2000 Kaplan performed and recorded with Barbra Streisand on her concert tour.

His movie credits are perhaps most impressive of all, a list of some 900 plus films including “Animal House”, “Airplane”, “Dances with Wolves”, Out of Africa”, “Sleepless in Seattle”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Hercules”, “Apollo 13”, “The Lion King”, “Con-Air”, “Batman and Robin”, “Silverado”, “Godzilla”, “Zorro”, “Planet of the Apes”, “Spiderman 1,2, and 3”, and “Men in Black 2”, “Pirates of the Carribean 1,2, and 3”,”Star Trek XI”,”The Incredibles”,”Up”, “Transformers 1&2” , “Annie”, “Mission Impossible 1,2,3, and 4”, “Alice in Wonderland”,and ”Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” to fame a few.

Alan was one of the principals in a Windplayer Magazine article featuring LA’s elite studio trombone players and was recently featured in the Brass Herald.

In January of 2002 Alan released his first solo album. It is a beautiful collection of standard ballads arranged for a thirty piece orchestra called Lonely Town. It was nominated for a Grammy that year. He more recently put out the CD “Secrets of Hoyt’s Garage” where he plays all the tenor and bass trombone parts himself. Dog & I Disagree/ Aggressive Chewers Short-Term Toy
Color: Red, Size: Medium
This is day two, and, My dog LOVED this toy! He loved the squeaking aspect, chewing the center squeaky area so he could squeak it himself (adorable!). He also loved playing fetch with it, but he loves fetch, but this was fun for him as it wasn't a ball. The chewing enjoyment is where it was at for him as he Loves to chew, and it was a nice weight that he could really carry around and have fun. I did love this toy, as it was cute, and he was having such a great time with it! Until his teeth kept getting stuck in the rubber around the center squeaker area when getting it to squeak by himself. That was almost it, but he LOVES this toy, so I gave it another chance. Then, one of his teeth got stuck in the center and his teeth became hooked on the top of the outer round and he couldn't get it out of his mouth. That was the End. Perhaps more size options, small, medium, and large, with safer spaces, at each size, between the squeaker area and the outer ring- so they can squeak it, yet avoid getting their teeth stuck and/or their mouths stuck open. I would say the durability is lacking, as, while similar, a Benebone it is not, though it gets sharp too-ouch! He had the outer rounds pretty tore up on the first day, and even more tore up today, so if you have a truly aggressive chewer, this is also a short term toy. This is a fun toy and many love it, though many more could love it with a few modifications. As it is, I did not find it a value for my money, even with as much fun as he had; at this time, the safety aspect and the ease with which he chewed it requires I look somewhere else. I hope this helps.

Plastic cut my dog
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
If your pet chews a lot do not buy. My dog chewed the plastic and cut her nose when grabbing the toy because of how sharp it became.

Great for aggressive chewers
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
This toy held up well. My dog is a very aggressive chewer and will shred apart any toy she can. She was not able to tear up this one. I have not found many toys that she doesn't destroy

Best Balls Ever!!!
Size: Medium
These are the best balls ever! We have 2 very active ball loving dogs and these bounce very well and they actually hold up with active play and chewing. They still look brand new after daily use for months!

Finally a ball my power chewers cannot destroy
Size: Medium
I have two dogs, an American Bully and an American Pit Bull Terrier, and both of them love to chew. Most balls last a very short time around here before they are shredded or missing big chunks. This one has actually held up. They chase it, tug on it and sit and chew on it, and it is still in one piece with no pieces breaking off. One of my favorite things is being able to put food inside. I add some kibble or small snacks, and they will happily sit and work on it for a long time. It keeps them busy, gives them something safe to chew, and they get a little reward while they play. When they are done, I just rinse it out and it is ready to go again. If you have strong jawed dogs that usually destroy toys, this ball is worth trying. Mine really enjoy it and I feel better knowing they finally have a ball that can keep up with them.
