Filled with beautiful artwork in pen and ink, watercolor, and pastel, this volume includes illustrations by Kurt Wiese, Lucille Douglass, Helen Sewell, Ninon MacKnight, and Miroslav Sasek. The illustrations bring to life the stories in each book and provide cultural and historical insight into the lives of Chinese people from past generations. Elizabeth Foreman Lewis, who wrote most of the novels represented here, lived in China for a number of years and was a renowned writer, winning the prestigious 1933 Newbery Medal for her novel, Young Fu of the Upper Yangtze. The reader will undoubtedly appreciate this fascinating collection of illustrations, and perhaps be enticed to read the books from which they originated.

I've bought two of these — one for my grand puppy to use when she's at my house, and another for her to keep at her house. I was shocked that she actually seems to enjoy playing with this toy! She hunts out all the bunnies and then brings the carrot to me to refill. I refill it, and then she takes the refilled carrot back to her spot and hunts them all out again. If I can't find one of the bunnies (because it's gotten stuck in the couch cushion, for example), I ask her "where's the bunny?" and she helps me find it! This dog is a ferocious chewer but she doesn't chew these toys! It's like she instinctively knows they are for hunting, not chewing. As a result, they have lasted a long time and provide hours of quality fun. Great value!
