The purpose of these notes is to encourage us to lift ours eyes above our daily trials and disappointments Òunto the hills, from whence cometh my helpÓ (Psalm 121:1); that is, to the sure promises of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On the night before He was crucified, the Lord candidly told His Apostles, ÒIn the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.Ó (John 16:33). As we seek to Òtake up the cross, and followÓ the Lord (Mark 10:21), we should not be surprised when we Òhave tribulationÓ, we should be of Ògood cheer;Ó for the Lord has Òovercome the worldÓ, the source of our ÒtribulationÓ. It is good for us to be reminded daily that we have an Almighty Òfriend that sticketh closer than a brotherÓ (Proverb 18:24), who will Ònever leave thee, nor forsake theeÓ (Hebrews 13:5).
