Meaning of the Symbol. The Trinity Knot is the simplest of the Celtic knots. The Celts were very familiar with the idea of the trinity. There were many things in their culture that came in threes; the three stages of womanhood (maid, mother, crone) and the three elements (earth, fire, water) are two good examples of this. Early Christians used the Celts understanding of the trinity to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and Christians embraced using this knot as a symbol to express that concept in many of the early Christian illuminated manuscripts, such as the Book of Kells. The combination of the trinity knot into rings, linens, jewelry and other bridal designs is associated with eternity and eternal love. The trinity symbol predates the crucifix by hundreds of years.

The Celtic knot symbol, is also referred to as the mystic knot, or the endless knot. In viewing these beautiful knots, we cannot see a beginning or an end, and therefore we are reminded of the timeless nature of our spirit. This translation harkens to our most primal selves as we contemplate the infinite cycles of birth and rebirth in both physical and ethereal realms.

A less spiritual representation is also related to the knotโ€™s endless nature. Due to its infinite path, the Celtic knot can represent an uninterrupted life cycle. Some may use this symbol as a charm of sorts warding against sickness or setbacks that night interfere with an otherwise calm and stable life.

An Essential
Format: Paperback
I've created PowerPoints for executives in major corporations and national non-profits for years now, and this is one of the first books I suggest anyone who needs to create their own PowerPoint look to. Beyond Bullet points is accessable enough that the novice PowerPoint user can understand what's going on and use the lessons in his or her next presentation; it's also detailed and challenging enough that even an old salt like me can find things to learn and do. Don't be another person who stands on stage reading their PowerPoint, and don't let reading your slides distract the audience from your presentation; follow the suggestions in this book and wow your audience.

Bad book for SOA exam, but oh well.
Format: Paperback
While required by Society of Actuaries as the textbook for Short Term Actuarial Models exam, I could not recommend this textbook for any other purposes. Written by two Canadian actuaries, a lot of terms and explanations used in this textbook cannot be transferred into US P&C insurance. It fails to explains insurance's purpose and products effectively and as an intro book with unnecessary sentences to deliver personal thoughts. It is also a mess in following sections on ratemaking and reserving. I cannot sense a flow from this book that guides readers in an approachable manner. Overall, author compromises the size AND the quality.
