The Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 8x12G SFP is a heavy-duty, rack-mount gateway designed to bridge up to eight channels of 12G-SDI equipment with a SMPTE ST 2110 IP broadcast network. By utilizing SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) slots, it allows for high-density, multi-channel conversion over long distances using optical fiber.

8-Channel Bidirectional Gateway: Simultaneously converts eight independent 12G-SDI feeds into 2110 IP streams, while also converting eight 2110 IP streams back into 12G-SDI. This effectively provides 16 channels of conversion (8 in, 8 out) in a single 1RU space.

Fiber Optic Support: The eight SFP cages allow for the installation of 10G optical fiber transceivers. This enables the unit to be located kilometers away from the central switch or other IP endpoints.

PTP Synchronization: Supports IEEE 1588-2008 (PTP v2) to keep all eight channels perfectly genlocked and in sync with the facility’s grandmaster clock.

Operational Insight
This converter is the "master hub" for legacy SDI infrastructure. It is designed for machine rooms where you need to ingest multiple 4K cameras or playout servers into an IP backbone without using up a dozen individual mini-converters.
The SFP design is critical here: because 12G-SDI over copper is extremely limited in distance (roughly 70 meters), converting to IP over fiber via this unit allows you to distribute those eight 4K signals across an entire campus or stadium with zero signal degradation.
