From one of the most esteemed American poets of the twenty-first century comes a celebration of poetry and an invitation for anyone to experience its beauty and wonder.

Full of fresh and exciting insights, Making Your Own Days illuminates the somewhat mysterious subject of poetry for those who read it and for those who write it--as well as for those who would like to read and write it better. By treating poetry not as a special use of language but as a distinct language--unlike the one used in prose and conversation--Koch clarifies the nature of poetic inspiration, how poems are written and revised, and what happens to the heart and mind while reading a poem.

Koch also provides a rich anthology of more than ninety works from poets past and present. Lyric poems, excerpts from long poems and poetic plays, poems in English, and poems in translation from Homer and Sappho to Lorca, Snyder, and Ashbery; each selection is accompanied by an explanatory note designed to complement and clarify the text and to put pleasure back into the experience of poetry.

A book reluctant readers will love
Format: Kindle
Kids who are Minecraft fans will love Scott Charles’ Trapped in Class, Book 1 of the Video Game Elementary series. Connor is a fourth grader at Video Game Elementary, an online elementary school built inside a fully immersive virtual reality video game. Connor’s watching the clock, waiting for school to end so he can go to his first practice with the Swords Team when suddenly there’s a strange hiss, bleep, crack, and the world fades into white. The next thing Connor knows, it’s morning again. Like some weird, middle school version of Groundhog’s Day, the day has restarted. Stuck in a time loop, Connor must fight Fanged Slime, Vampire Mold, and other monsters to keep the school’s power crystals from being destroyed. Luckily, he has a school custodian, a friend named Glitch, a girls who’s very good at hacking the system, and a cleaning ghost with an attitude to help him. This book is easy to read and action packed. It should be a great hit with kids who’d rather hold a game controller than a book. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
