The renowned sailing ship, Cutty Sark, constructed in Dumbarton, holds the distinction of being the most famous among clippers and, during its prime, claimed the title of the fastest. With the capacity to carry 32,000 square feet of sail, it achieved a remarkable maximum speed of over 17 knots.

Primarily engaged in the tea trade, the Cutty Sark facilitated the swift transportation of the new season's crop from China to London, with crews vying for the honor of being the first to return. Since 1957, the ship has been on display in dry dock in Greenwich, London, drawing visitors from across the globe. This beloved vessel faced a significant threat in a major fire on May 21, 2007; efforts are underway to fully restore it.
