Drawing on never-before-seen interviews, a richly researched, sweeping examination of one of the most influential and mythologized literary figures of the 20th century and her partner's emergence from the shadows after her death, in the decades-long fight to ensure her legacy. Gertrude Stein's salon at 27 rue de Fleurus in the 6th arrondissement of Paris is the stuff of literary legend. Many have tried to capture the spirit and glamour of the place that once entertained and fostered the likes of Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse, but perhaps none as determinedly, and self-consciously, as Stein herself. In this new biography of the polarizing, trailblazing author, collector, salonnière, and tastemaker, Francesca Wade rescues Stein from the tangle of contradictions that has characterized her legacy, expertly presenting us with this towering literary figure as we've never seen her before. A genius to her admirers, a charlatan to her detractors, Stein achieved international celebrity in 1933 with her bestselling memoir, The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, written in the voice of her devoted partner--a triumph which, ironically, only drew attention away from the avant-garde poetry she called her "real" writing. After Stein's death in 1946, Alice B. Toklas made it her mission to shepherd all of Stein's unpublished writing into print, all the while negotiating her own fraught role in the complex mythology they had built together. The biographers who flocked to Stein's newly opened archive found a surprising trove of secrets which would change Stein's image forever: a forgotten novel, a cache of love letters, and a series of notebooks which shed entirely new light on her early years in Paris. Pushing beyond the conventions of literary biography, Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife is a bold, innovative examination of the nature of legacy and memory itself, in which Wade uncovers the origins of Stein's radical writing and reveals new depths to the storied relationship that made it possible. A captivating, brilliant work of biography, Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife is a groundbreaking examination of a true literary giant.Author: Francesca Wade

Avoid at all costs. Rusty and not stable. Confusing customer service.
Size: 1-Piece, Color: Black, Size: 1-Piece, Color: Black
Do not buy!!! Cheap product and bad customer service! The product is rusted upon delivery. It is not stable and will not hold an umbrella rated for 22lb stand upright with water alone. They wanted me to refill the stand and send them pictures of the tilt even though the rust should warrant a full refund with shipping covered, if they were a good company. The company is giving me the run around on a return and conflicting information. They said they I would have to pay for the return, then that they would, then and try keep trying to offer me a discounted rate and charging me shipping. Here is a copy of the communication. They offered $10 telling me that rust is not covered in their warranty, even if it arrived rusty!
First message: "After the returned item is delivered to our warehouse with no issue, we will return your amount."
Second message: "Generally, rust can be caused by many factors and is not typically covered under our warranty. However, as a valued customer, weβd like to offer you a USD 10 price return if you choose to keep and continue using the base as it is.
Please let us know if this solution works for you, and we will process it right away."

Cost Effective Good Weighted Base
Size: 1-Piece, Color: Black, Size: 1-Piece, Color: Black
Strong metal pole to hold the umbrella and thick plastic base that feels very well made. Very simple to put together with the provided allen-wrench, just took time to make sure it was very tight. Got it for my neighbor's umbrella. Make sure you have it where you want it before filling it. It is unfilled at the moment and yet still has helped the umbrella stay stable. I like the look of it and that it can be used with or without a table. I really like the idea that if you have another long pole items that it can be used for those as well. The double lock design is a nice feature. Inexpensive.

Purple Purple!!
Size: 9ft, Color: Dark Purple, Size: 9ft, Color: Dark Purple
Looks great!! I would say the color is like Crayola marker purple. It was easy to assemble straight out of the box. And a perfect size for my six person patio table. The weight of the fabric seems of high-quality and thickness. I would recommend as it seems to be a good value for the price point..

Great value!
Size: 9ft, Color: Dark Blue
This is a bargain for the price. Thus umbrella is well made and has a very nice fabric. It came package well and was exceptionally easy to assemble. The had crank works well and operates very smoothly. The color is vibrant and I would certainly buy this again. I'm very happy with this purchase.
